2011 has seen further developments in TW Services’ commitment to Zero Landfill in the form of the utilisation of RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) for the residual waste left over from the recycling processes at Richborough Hall, Sandwich.
This residual material which had traditionally terminated in local landfill is now exported to an RDF Fuelled energy facility in Northern Europe. Here the waste is passed through an environmentally friendly incineration process whereby the resultant heat is utilised in the production of energy and the provision of warmth.
The energy is converted into useable electricity via steam driven turbines and is fed to 60,000 homes in the surrounding area. In addition to this the excess steam from the plant is also piped to homes in the area for heating purposes and this steam replaces up to 25 million litres of oil that would ordinarily be used.
This exciting development has followed around 6 months of trials and testing for material suitability as well as close liaison with the representative authorities associated with the exporting of waste materials. TW Services are one of only 12 operators who have successfully been granted licenses for RDF export.

In addition to the arrival of new vehicles, January has seen TW Services working with groundwork and construction contractors Coleman & James who are working on behalf of Blueberry Homes at an exciting development in Broadstairs.
The development, in Broadstairs Town Centre comprises the development of a former service station seeing the construction of a multiple story building consisting of a supermarket at street level, with underground parking being created in a basement which will service the apartment block destined for the remainder of the building.
The project has seen TW Services supply Coleman & James with a dig, load, cart and disposal service at the former petrol station in Vere Road. Some 3000m³ of excavated material has been removed by TW and taken to a restoration site for disposal. As well as providing the vehicles and disposal solution TW also supplied the excavator complete with operator for the digging and loading.
The works in Broadstairs coincided with the delivery of 7 new vehicles for TW Services, some of which were utilised on the project. Peter Friend, General Manager at TW Services commented “We are delighted to have been able to supply Coleman and James with the necessary solution to not only remove and dispose of the material but also to provide the equipment and labour to carry out the earthworks too”.
Coleman & James have also chosen to partner with TW Services for their requirements for waste disposal during the construction phase of the works. This will see TW Services provide skips and containers for the removal of all forms of waste from the project. The waste materials will be direct delivered into TW Services recycling facility in Sandwich which boasts a zero to landfill policy.
This commitment along with the delivery of the excavations from Vere Road to a restoration project has offered Coleman and James and Blueberry homes alike peace of mind that all of the waste from site has been dealt with in an environmentally friendly fashion.

In addition to the successes of waste management over Christmas, January saw seven new vehicles join the extensive TW Services fleet both in replacement of older vehicles and as additions to the fleet to support increased demand for waste movements.
The seven vehicles comprise six tippers of which two have larger capacity bodies for moving light weight, bulky items such as food waste with the seventh vehicle being a new tractor unit to support the bulk haulage fleet.
All of the vehicles are from the Scania range and are specified to Euro 5 emission standards ensuring that our vehicles are in keeping with our commitment to the environment elsewhere within the business. Sourced from Scania GB in Kent the vehicles are sporting something rather different in terms of their signwriting this time round. In what can only be described as ground breaking within the waste management and recycling industry we are not only heavily promoting our commitment to Zero Landfill via the vehicle imagery but also our use of social media for promotional purposes.
So keep your eyes open on the roads of Kent for our new trucks sporting not only fantastic new sign writing but also some quirky number plates.
